Caroline Labouchere: A watch for every moment in life

Caroline Labouchere: A watch for every moment in life

I was 23 when I took out a bank loan to buy my first yellow gold ladies 26mm Rolex ‘Datejust’ I thought it would be a great investment not forgetting how beautiful it would look on my wrist.

A few years later, I sold my Rolex and bought a H Hermes watch - it was very elegant and I kept this one thinking my daughter would enjoying wearing it.

For my fortieth birthday my husband gave me a white gold 29mm Rolex Pearlmaster with diamonds. I really thought this would be my forever watch as I loved it but as you get older your style changes and I decided that perhaps a bigger watch was more me. I went for a 38mm Chanel White J12 with pink sapphires! I loved this watch as it had so much meaning and represented change and growth in my life.
Seven years later I have settled into a stainless steel 36mm Rolex Datejust. Its a classic, stylish, ‘grownup’ watch. As much as I have a passion for Rolex I have  to admit I never found them to be the best time keepers, but I do believe that this is my ‘forever’ watch.

I’m still always on the look out for watches and always pop into stores just to see if I fall in love with another piece of wrist art; I’m always on the cusp of an upgrade. However whatever style I buy it has to have a metal strap as I am quite sporty. I also like watches with a white face to give me as much clarity as possible. Age related macular degeneration (shortsightedness) has set in and now my arm is not long to read the time let alone the date easily.

On my current “wish List’ is the Cartier ‘Tank Anglais’ with diamonds, mid size. So that’s my addiction to watches. Then steps in my second weakness – jewellery. From generous inheritances I own some classic vintage pieces, which I love but my taste is really more contemporary and modern.

I love the Tiffany T collection so I bought the black bangle; which is simple and different and really stands out. I liked it so much that I bought the thick silver T bangle too.

Recently I was part of a Dior jewellery shoot to promote their recent collection ‘Rose des vents’. This collection is stunning and ageless as there are pieces for everyone. Since this shoot I have added a ring with diamonds and earrings to my “wish list”
I was also lucky enough to do a fashion shoot featuring two million dirhams of Robert Wan black pearls. Oh the temptation was everywhere! What’s a girl to do!

Modeling gives me so many opportunities to wear things I never would have been exposed to in the past. My grey hair and complexion really make jewellery pop in photographs. But I have to learn that I can’t have them all and settle for enjoying the short moments when I am privileged to wear and show off these beautiful pieces of art for other people.
