Leading 42 gem & jewellery exhibitors from India participated under India Pavilion organized by GJEPC at the June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gems Fair 2018. The event was held from 21 - 24 June 2018 at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) with an exciting line up of exhibitors and special events. The Fair maintained its top spot as the most important mid-year jewellery sourcing event in Asia. Occupying 70,000 square meters of exhibition space, the Fair was strategically divided into specialty pavilions, making sourcing easier for buyers.
Today, India is renowned across the world as the destination for sourcing quality gems and jewellery. The export of gem & jewellery accounted for US$ 42 billion in 2017. Hong Kong was the leading export destination in 2017 with total exports pegged at US$ 14 billion (33%). Exports of cut and polished diamonds to Hong Kong accounted for US$ 10 billion; Gold Jewellery accounted for US$ 973.40 million, colored gemstones accounted for US$ 205.70 million.
Currently, India’s gem and jewellery industry employs 5 million workforce and is gearing up to take this to 7 million by 2022. The sector Contributes 7% to India’s total GDP.
